The Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class which was revealed globally in February 2021 will make its way to Indian shores on the 10th of May 2022. Into its 5th Generation, the New Mercedes Benz C-Class will be underpinned by MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform, which is slightly upgraded from the previous generation.
The sleek exterior design of the upcoming C-Class looks modern and sharper than before. The overall outlook is an evolution of the outgoing W205, and now looks more in line with the latest generation of its siblings namely the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, E-Class and the S-Class. Its LED headlamp design is borrowed from the A-Class. One can also witness the classic Mercedes 3 pointed star logo on the single slat grille. Towards the rear, the split tail lamp cluster gives it an aggressive stance, further enhanced by a dual muffler design for the exhaust. In addition to these, the car’s overall dimensions have changed. The length has been increased by 65 mm while the width goes up by 10 mm. It features 18-inch alloy wheels as standard while 19-inch wheels are optional.
The German automaker has loaded the C-Class with modern features and technology. As a result, the cabin will provide features like a large vertically set 12.3-inch infotainment system based on MBUX OS, placed under 3 round air-con vents. The increase in size has liberated space on the inside with the elbow and shoulder room going up by 22mm and 26 mm respectively. It will also come fitted with front seats offering memory function & ventilation, wireless mobile connectivity and more. The optional equipment list is quite long including a Burmester 3D sound system, heads up display, heated steering wheel, over the air updates, ambient lighting among others.
As far as the variant line-up is concerned, the C200 and C220d will make its way to the country, offered with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel respectively mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission. Another C300d trim will be available with the same 2.0litre turbo diesel engine, but with a higher state of tune producing 245 bhp. It is expected that the engines will also get a 48V mild hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). To improve handling Mercedes has equipped the sedan with agility control suspension with continuously adjustable dampers and a multi-link axle rear suspension mounted to the subframe. There are a host of safety features including the Active Distance Assist to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead, Active Steering Assist, and Traffic Sign Assist amongst others.
The outgoing generation of Mercedes C-Class is priced between Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 51.74 lakhs (ex-showroom). In India, the upcoming C-Class will rival the likes of the BMW 3 series, Lexus ES300h, Volvo S60, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE.
