Mahindra is preparing to launch a range of new electric cars for the Indian market. Simultaneously, the homegrown automaker working on upgrading the ICE models including Bolero. The next-gen Bolero SUV is likely to be launched in 2026 and will be based on the all-new platform. Continue to read more about the all-new Mahindra Bolero:
Mahindra will use the all-new platform to design and develop the next-gen Bolero. Codenamed U171, this new platform is likely to be used for developing other Mahindra SUVs and pick-up trucks. The homegrown automaker is expected to build at least three SUVs on the same platform. These SUVs could help the brand gain an annual volume of 1.5 lakh units.
The new-gen Bolero is currently in the works and it is hard to talk about the design changes. Though we can expect the brand to retain the current rugged and boxy styling with some design tweaks on the outside. Some of its exterior design elements could include an aggressive design with LED headlamps, hinged doors, new alloy wheels, and LED tail lamps. On receiving the new U171 platform, it is likely to house an all-new engine. Inside, it is likely to get a bigger touchscreen for infotainment, automatic climate control, and more.
The next-gen Mahindra Bolero will also come in multiple seating layouts. The standard model is likely to receive a 7-seat layout with bench-type seats in the second and third rows. The SUV could also receive 9 and 11-seater variants with side-facing seats in the third row. The long wheelbase model will be introduced with 9 and 11 seats.
Further, the new Mahindra Bolero is likely to receive the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that powers the XUV 3XO and the Thar RWD. This engine produces 117PS and 300Nm of peak torque. With the new-gen model, Mahindra could also opt for a petrol-powered variant. The petrol model could receive the new 2.0-litre mStallion turbo unit but in a lower state of tune.
Similar to the Thar.e, the next-gen Mahindra Bolero is also expected to receive an electric derivative in the future. While details about the EV are yet to be revealed, we expect the new Bolero EV to be based on a new platform. The same platform is also expected to be used to develop the Thar electric. In order to target a wide audience, the next-gen Bolero and Thar EVs could offer AWD drivetrain using a dual-motor setup.
