At the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, BYD unveiled new cars and demonstrated their focus on electric and hybrid mobility in India. Cars that were on display at the event included the Sealion 6 PHEV, Yangwang U8, and the Sealion 7 Electric Coupe-SUV. These cars represent how BYD is trying to target different market segments, from hybrid options to fully electric SUVs.
BYD Sealion 6 was displayed at Auto Expo 2025. Although its India launch is still not confirmed, the Sealion 6 already exists in other markets like Australia. It has a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an 18.3kWh battery, taking its total range to up to 1,092 km.
There are two models of Sealion 6. The Dynamic version, that gives out 218hp and boasts an acceleration of 0-100 in 8.5 seconds. The Premium one, with a 324hp, was much faster with 0-100 accelerating from a standstill at 5.9 seconds. Both variants have electric-only ranges between 81 km and 92 km. This takes the car a few kilometres before that the petrol kicks in to power.
The interior of Sealion 6 comes with a 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster. This vehicle is also fitted with seven airbags, ADAS, ISOFIX anchors, and 360-degree cameras for safety. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system.
BYD showcased the luxury full-size SUV, Yangwang U8. The design of the U8 is quite bold and boxy. It has pixelated pattern grille in the headlights and DRLs, a squared shape wheel arches, and blacked-out wheels. A large tailgate-mounted spare wheel and LED tail lights matching the pixelated design complete the vehicle.
The U8 is powered by a four independent motors plug-in hybrid powertrain. The combined power amounts to 1183.58 bhp, and the total range offered is 1,000 km. Interior soft-touch leather materials cover the dashboard as well, and there's also a large, vertically oriented infotainment screen, driver's display, and entertainment screens for the co-driver and rear passengers. An environment alarm takes care of unsuspected children.
Other features include multizone A/C, panoramic sunroof, and 22 speakers sound system. BYD announced it but could not confirm when to launch but the U8 may now join the ranks of expensive SUVs like the Land Rover Range Rover, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Another big unveiling, that of the Sealion 7 Electric Coupe-SUV, to arrive in the first half of March 2025. It will more or less settling in around Rs. 45-55 lakh. Sealion 7 will compete against Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Volvo EX40.
The Sealion 7 will come in two battery variants: the RWD is an 82.5 kWh battery, 309bhp, and a 482 km range; the AWD is a 91.3 kWh, 523bhp, and 502 km range. DC fast charging will bring the AWD up from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes.
Inside, the Sealion 7 features a dual-tone black and off-white interior, a 10-inch digital driver's display, and a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system.
