The competition in the mid-size electric SUV segment recently got fiercer with the entry of the new Hyundai Creta Electric and Mahindra BE 6. Tata Curvv EV, which was introduced in August last year, has been performing quite well in terms of sales, with 21,172 units so far. Now that we have the prices, specifications, and full feature details of these electric SUVs, let’s take a look at the performance and range figures of this trio.
Hyundai’s first mass-market offering – the Creta Electric – comes with two battery packs – 42kWh and 51.4kWh. While the former offers an ARAI claimed range of 390km, the latter (Long-Range version) delivers 473km on a single charge. The Long-Range variant can do 0 to 100kmph in 7.9 seconds. It has a single electric mounted on the front axle, delivering power worth 171bhp and 255Nm of torque. The smaller battery has 135bhp, electric motor.
The Mahindra BE6 is being offered with the 228bhp, 59kWh and 281bhp, 79kWh battery packs, promising an ARAI-certified range of 556km and 682km, respectively. Both variants produce 380Nm of torque. The BE6 comes with the RWD (rear-wheel drive) system only. Mahindra claims that its new born electric SUV accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 6.7 seconds.
The Tata Curvv EV comes with the 45kWh and 55kWh battery pack options, which are claimed to return an MIDC range of 502km and 585km, respectively. The smaller battery has a 150bhp, electric motor at the front axle, while the bigger battery version comes with a 167bhp motor. Both return a claimed torque of 215Nm. The Curvv EV with 55kWh battery achieves 0 to 100kmph in 8.6 seconds, and offers a top speed of 160kmph. Its smaller battery version accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 9 seconds.
The Creta Electric’s 51.4kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 58 minutes using a DC fast charger and from 10 to 100 percent in 4.5 hours using an 11kW AC home charger.
Mahindra’s born-electric BE6 takes 6 hours/8 hours for 59kWh/79kWh batteries to fully charged via a 11.2kW AC charger and 8.7 hours/11.7 hours for 59kWh/79kWh batteries via a 7.3kWh AC charger, respectively. Both batteries can also be juiced up from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger.
Tata claims that Curvv EV’s batteries charge for up to 150km of range in just 15 minutes and from 10 to 80 percent in 40 minutes via a 70kW charger.
