Kia is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. After introducing the Clavis MPV, Kia will introduce two mass-market electric vehicles including a new compact SUV and an electric MPV.
The Korean automaker, Kia will introduce the much-awaited Clavis 7-seater MPV on May 8, 2025 which will be positioned above the Carens. Interestingly, Kia won’t discontinue the Kia Carens and it will be sold alongside the Clavis MPV. The company is also getting serious with its EV strategy for the Indian market.
While Kia will continue to introduce its global electric cars based on the skateboard architecture, it will also launch Electric Vehicles based on the existing ICE-powered vehicles. The Kia Clavis based electric MPV is scheduled to be launched in the mid-2025, most probably around June 2025. Adding to it, the Syros SUV based electric SUV is also under development.
The Kia Clavis electric MPV has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian and Korean streets. Recently, the electric MPV was spotted with partial camouflage near a charging station. It will look largely identical to the new Clavis; however, Kia will make certain changes to give its an EV-like design. The front styling is expected to be inspired by global Kia EVs including the EV9 and EV3.
The Kia Clavis electric MPV will have an all-new front fascia, featuring a blacked-off grille, and revised LED headlamps and daytime running lamps. The charging port is mounted on a front fender. It will come with an aero-optimised alloy wheels, slightly tweaked tail-lights connected via a light bar, and new rear bumper.
The cabin is also expected to receive some changes to keep things fresh in the market. This electric MPV will likely to get new upholstery for seats and restyled dashboard layout with a tweaked instrument console. The Clavis EV will also come with LEVEL 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite, and a 360-degree surround view camera. Similar to the Syros, the electric MPV could get front, side and rear parking sensors. It is also likely to get ventilated front and second-row seats, recline and slide function for second-row seats and a fixed glass roof.
The Kia Carens EV or Clavis EV is likely to share the battery pack with the Creta EV, which is available with two battery capacities - 42kWh with 390km range and 51.4kWh with 473km range. The smaller battery gets a 135hp electric motor, while the Long-Range variant gets the 171hp electric motor.
Kia is yet to make an official announcement on the exact launch details of the Clavis EV; however, our sources reveal that the electric MPV will arrive in the mid-2025 - most probably by June-July 2025.
Kia will also launch its smallest and most affordable electric vehicle based on the Syros compact SUV in India. This mass-market electric car is expected to be positioned under the sub-Rs 15 lakh price segment. Details of the upcoming Kia Syros EV will be revealed in the near future, but here’s everything we know so far about this electric car.
The upcoming electric SUV is expected to be based on the heavily modified Hyundai-Kia’s K2 platform that also underpins the Creta EV. It will look similar to the original model; however, Kia will make several EV-specific design changes. The electric SUV is expected to get a closed-off front grille, new bumper and aero-optimised wheels.
The electric SUV will most likely to share features with the ICE model. It will have LEVEL 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, and a 5-inch display for the climate control system. The Syros EV will get front, side and rear parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, and others.
The new Kia Syros EV is expected to be offered with the same battery options as the Hyundai Creta Electric. It could be offered with a 42kWh and a 51.4kWh battery packs with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. It is likely to offer a range of around 450-500km in a single charge.
The Kia Syros EV is yet to hit the final testing phase and is not likely to arrive this year. We expect the Syros electric to launch in our market in early next year, most probably in the first quarter. A possible debut at the 2026 Bharat Mobility Global Expo can’t be ignored.
