Kia’s premium sub-4 metre SUV, the Syros, has been spotted testing once again in India. The test vehicle was covered in full camouflage and bore a ‘No Photography’ sticker on the side, hinting at a possible new variant in the works. The move comes at a time when Kia is likely trying to boost Syros’ market presence following a slowdown in sales.
The latest test mule has triggered speculation that Kia may be working on either a fully electric Syros EV or a new X Line version. Both variants are expected to expand the Syros lineup and make it more appealing in a highly competitive segment. While no official confirmation has been given, industry sources suggest that the electric variant could hit the market by early 2026.
If the camouflaged test model is an electric version, the Syros EV could soon join Kia India’s portfolio as its most affordable EV offering. This would help the brand take on popular rivals like the Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV and MG Windsor EV. With the electric vehicle market growing rapidly in India, the Syros EV could provide Kia with a strong contender in the compact electric SUV space.
Another possibility is the introduction of an X Line variant of the Syros. Kia typically uses the X Line badge to introduce exclusive design elements such as matte-finish exterior shades, dark chrome details and interior enhancements. However, the test vehicle was seen in the regular Intense Red shade, with no distinct X Line styling cues, making it harder to confirm if this is the sportier version.
The test vehicle was seen with a visible exhaust outlet at the rear, suggesting it may still be powered by an internal combustion engine. This could indicate that Kia is working on a petrol-powered Syros variant, possibly with the brand’s 1.2-litre Kappa engine. However, it is also possible that the exhaust is a decoy, as manufacturers often disguise electric vehicles during road tests.
