India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, first introduced globally in 1970, marked the beginning of an era of lightweight off-roading sports utility vehicles (SUVs) that were rugged and easy on the pocket. Not only in India, the Jimny is a car that is loved by car enthusiasts all over the world.
While it is popular as a three-door car overseas, considering the requirements of Indians and competition, Suzuki with Maruti developed the five-door version. Its major rivals here include the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha, both of which are Indian Car Manufacturers.

Talking about the looks of the Jimny, be it three or five-door, the SUV boasts a simplistic yet rugged look that is very pleasing to look at. Yes, it does have a boxy design but that seems to blend in well with the idea of a rough and tough off-roading car.
Also, it is a sub-compact SUV at 3,985 millimetres (with the spare tyre mounted on the tail) and that helps it pass through tight spaces with ease. This sets it apart from larger SUVs which could be intimidating.

The Jimny in India comes standard with the 4x4 drive type. Because of its 1,200-kilogram kerb weight, Jimny has the advantage of passing over tricky road terrain where some bigger SUVs may have a hard time. As it is equipped with a petrol engine, driving the Jimny in hilly areas is easy as the fuel is easily combustible as compared to diesel cars.
In lower temperatures, the wax in diesel tends to thicken, making it difficult to start the engine. With the Jimny, the 4x4 system is operated with a manual stick just like in the old days, giving you a sense of nostalgia and complete control of the situation.
The frugal and rough and tough philosophy is carried inside as well. The dashboard is stretched all the way to the front with vertical glass, making visibility great. You also get a 9-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other features include a 360-degree camera, electrically foldable outer rear-view mirrors, toggle-type switches and steering-mounted audio controls. It is also high on safety features like six airbags, an antilock braking system (ABS), an electronic stability programme (ESP), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and hill descent control.

With the Suzuki Jimny, customisation is never an issue. As it is a global product, you have the option of accessorising the SUV according to your choice. For instance, there are after-market kits with which you can modify the Jimny and make it look like the Mercedes-Benz G Class. Some are very tastefully done and do look nice.
For those who feel that the Jimny is underpowered, in the age of engine tuning and power enhancements, the Jimny presents a great case. Its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine can be modded with larger air intakes and tweaks to the electronic control unit, taking the power figure beyond 200 horsepower (stock 103 bhp).
There are companies that can even turbocharge the naturally aspirated car so that you can extract the most out of this engine. Another thing to note is that though it is highly customisable, the Suzuki Jimny is extremely high on reliability, something that the Japanese car manufacturers have definitely cracked.
