The new Tata Altroz facelift has been launched at a starting price of Rs 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It comes with several segment-leading features and multiple powertrain options. It directly rival the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment. Tata Motors has now revealed the mileage figures of the CNG and diesel powered Altroz.
The Altroz is available in 3 engine options - a 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol, a 1.5L diesel and a CNG. The petrol engine is capable of producing 87bhp and 115Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed DCT. In the CNG mode, the same engine produces 72bhp and 103Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Altroz CNG is claimed to return an ARAI certified mileage of 26.90 km/kg. Its direct rivals, the Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza offer even higher mileage of 30.61 km/kg. The i20 is not available with a CNG fuel option. The Altroz CNG with dual-CNG cylinder offers a decent boot space of 210-litres, which makes it a more practical offering compared to the Baleno CNG.
The Altroz is the only diesel model in the premium hatchback segment. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine that produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Altroz diesel is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.60 kmpl, which makes it a good option for long travellers.
Tata Motors has not released the official mileage of Altroz petrol, but we expect the hatchback to have a claimed efficiency of around 18kmpl. In the real world conditions, the petrol-powered Altroz should deliver a mileage of around 13-14kmpl.
