Volkswagen is set to introduce its new subcompact SUV, the 2025 Volkswagen Tera, in May. The Tera will be an affordable SUV from the company and will provide buyers with a cheaper option compared to other models in the Volkswagen lineup. It will allegedly rival well-known SUVs in the sub-4-meter segment such as the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Tata Nexon.
The Volkswagen Tera takes styling directions from its bigger Volkswagen Tiguan SUV. The front of the Tera gets a two-piece LED Daytime Running Light (DRL) signature with thinmemost headlamps. The bumper gets contrasting black trimming for the air intakes and grille. In the flanks, the A- and B-pillar as well as the roof are painted black, which lends the Tera a sporting character. The back of the vehicle has short tail lights with black trim in between, and bumpers also have glossy black elements for looks.
Inside the Volkswagen Tera, the cabin is functional and uninspired, as it is on other new Volkswagens. The steering wheel, center console, and AC controls are along the lines of the India-spec Taigun. Instead of an integrated dash touchscreen, there's a stand-alone unit in the Tera. It will offer a 10-inch digital cockpit, wireless phone charging, car connectivity, and ambient lighting. It also receives an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) as part of added safety.
Volkswagen Tera uses the MQB A0 platform that Volkswagen Polo is constructed upon, as well as other vehicles in the family. The platform makes it possible for the Tera to be a little over 4 meters in length. The Tera's powertrain options have not been revealed yet, but it is supposed to have the same engine options as the Polo, such as the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. The Tera will have the option in Brazil of either a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) gasoline engine or a 1.0-litre TSI gasoline engine. The TSI has 115 horsepower and 178Nm of torque and will have both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
Volkswagen Tera will be offered in four versions. The versions will target a broad consumer base and will feature varying feature and spec trims. Price details are not officially announced, but it should be priced competitively to attract buyers in the budget SUV category.
Though the 2025 Volkswagen Tera is initially going to be launched in Brazil in May, it is likely to be available in other international markets soon. Volkswagen has not issued a statement on the launch of the vehicle in the Indian market, but there are strong chances that it will be there by 2026. The Tera will come below the Volkswagen T-Cross (Taigun in India) and be an affordable version for the customers.
In India, the Tera will be platform- and engine-sharing with the Skoda Kylaq, a sub-4-meter SUV that will arrive in 2025. It will be competing with some of the other best-selling cars in India, such as the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue.
