The demand for CNG cars are on all-time high, which is quite evident from the latest sales data. For the first time, CNG-powered cars have out-sold diesel vehicles in the financial year 2025. Several automakers are now planning to launch CNG powered SUVs and MPVs in India. In this article, we talk about top 3 upcoming CNG SUVs in India in the next 1 year -
Tata Motors is preparing to give a CNG fuel option to Curvv SUV Coupe. In fact, the Tata Curvv CNG has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The SUV Coupe will be the next model from the homegrown automaker to offer 4 different engine choice.
The Tata Curvv is available with petrol, diesel and electric powertrains. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine coupled with twin CNG cylinder tanks. This engine produces 99bhp and 170Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It will directly rival the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG and Maruti Grand Vitara CNG. It is expected to be around Rs 1 lakh expensive than the equivalent petrol variant.
Maruti Suzuki is developing an all-new mid-sized SUV, rumoured to be called the Escudo. This 5-seater mid-sized SUV will be launched in the second half of this year, before Diwali. It will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, and will be sold through ARENA dealership network.
The new Maruti Escudo SUV will share the powertrain options with the Grand Vitatra. The Escudo CNG will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In the CNG mode, this engine is capable of producing 89hp and 121Nm of torque.
Skoda is planning to launch a new variant of the Kylaq sub-4 meter SUV in the country. It is expected that the Skoda Kylaq CNG could be launched sometime later this year or in early 2026. The Skoda Kylaq CNG version is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a factory-fitted CNG kit.
