German automaker BMW has revealed the M4 CS (Competition Sport). The version is specifically developed for track use. It continues on the legacy of the ‘CS’ badge while making more power than its CS stablemates like the M3 and M4. The BMW M4 sits above the Competition line of vehicles but under the CSLs.
Right off the bat, the first change that strikes the eye is the yellow daytime running lights. It is reminiscent of the brand’s racing era with the grand tourers. Further, the two-door car’s front grille gets a red outline treatment to establish its presence in the CS line of cars.
A 3-litre twin-turbo engine with six straight cylinders has taken the power output from 530 hp to 550 hp. The torque output remains identical at 650 Nm but the engine is capable of revving for over an extra 200 rpm. Tweaks have been made to the engine’s mounts and cooling system to make it agile.
BMW also offers an all-wheel drive system - xDrive - with the M4 CS but you can run the car in two-wheel drive when using the torque converter automatic transmission.
Components like the exhaust have been moulded in titanium, while the interior is filled with carbon-fibre bits, including the paddle shifters. Talking about the chassis, improvements have been made to the driving dynamics and tyre control (19 and 20 inchers at the front and rear, respectively).
To note, these upgrades make the car achieve the 0-100 kmph sprint in an astounding 3.4 seconds. Notably, the tweaks caused a 20-kilogram weight reduction as compared to the M4 Competition.
M4 CS is yet to make its debut in India but BMW does sell the M4 Competiton in the country which was updated early this month. In the overseas market, the M4 CS will be up for grabs for over $124, 600, which translates to north of Rs. 1 crore, rivalling the Mercedes AMG C63 and Audi RS4. The M4 on sale in India comes at a price tag of Rs. 1.53 crore.
International deliveries come later in 2024 with production set to begin in July.
