India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
• To be based on C3 hatchback platform • Two petrol powertrains on offer • Expect sub-Rs 10 lakh starting price
French automaker Citroen entered the Indian market last-year with the C5 Aircross premium SUV. This year, the much more affordable C3 hatchback was launched, with an EV version to arrive next year. Furthermore, recent spy shots suggest that following the eC3 will be a 7-seater C3 arriving during the 2023 festive period.
Design-wise, the spy shots suggest that the new model will get the same front end design of the C3. However, to make space for the third row of seats, it will be a fair bit longer than the hatchback. Its rear end will feature new taillights and an upgraded bumper. The new 7-seater SUV is going to be based on the same e-CMP platform that underpins the C3 hatchback. While not confirmed yet, it could be named as the C3 Aircross.
Over to the interior, the SUV will likely provide a dual-tone design like its hatchback sibling. The feature-list will likely include a 10-inch infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, and more.
Citroen will most probably offer the same 1.2-litre turbocharged and 1.2-litre N/A petrol engine options of the C3 hatchback with the upcoming 7-seat SUV. The former makes 108 bhp with 190 Nm of peak torque while the latter makes 81 bhp with 115 Nm of max torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual.
The new four-wheeler we believe could become one of the most affordable cars with three rows of seats in India. It will compete against the Renault Triber, so expect a sub Rs 10 lakh starting price for Citroen’s upcoming offering.
While the C3 hatchback is still finding its feet in the Indian market, Citroen may have a hit on their hands with their new SUV. Affordable pricing means that it could become a good choice for consumers who need a 7-seater but can’t splurge on something like the Kia Carens or the Maruti Ertiga.
