Mercedes Benz has already stated that it will be bringing the new E-Class LWB to India by the third-quarter of 2024. Recently showcased in China, India will get the right-hand-drive version which means it will get some key changes. Now, latest reports have revealed the specifications in which the new Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB will be available in India. We take a closer look.
The new Mercedes E-Class LWB (codename V124) will be underpinned by the same MRA2 platform as the new C-Class and S-Class. While it may look similar to the regular E-Class, the LWB model has some distinct differences compared to the former. The front end features a taller and flatter clamshell bonnet while the wider front grille is placed lower and will be available in two variants, sporty or traditional. At the side, the E-Class LWB gets longer ‘Maybach’ rear doors while the rear quarter glass is now positioned on the C-pillar. Moving to the rear, it gets Mercedes’ new Y-shaped LED tail lights, a full-width chrome strip, and a faux diffuser with faux chrome-tipped exhausts.
Mercedes Benz also offers optional features like an illuminated grille surround instead of the regular illuminated logo, and Digital Light headlamps and side lights that can project a carpet of bright stars when you unlock your vehicle at night.
Inside, the E-Class LWB gets the same dashboard layout and design as the regular model. It gets Mercedes’ new Superscreen layout that comprises a 14.4-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch passenger screen that’s integrated under a single glass cover. However, Mercedes may offer a simple dashboard layout for India as most E-Class owners here are chauffeur-driven.
Other key highlights in the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB’s interior include 360-degree LED mood lighting that wraps around the rear seats, two-tone interior trim, Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, and a panoramic sunroof. The brand-new rear seats are more comfort-oriented with extendable thigh supports that can move up to half a foot forward.
Mercedes will offer the new E-Class LWB in India with heavily updated versions of its current powertrain options. Both diesel and petrol motors will be available, but will now feature 48V mild-hybrid tech. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor will likely make around 200 bhp with 440 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is expected to pump out around 205 bhp with 330 Nm of max torque. Mercedes will also offer a range-topping turbo diesel variant, however, it is not clear if it will be the 4-cylinder motor from the C-Class or the 6-cylinder unit from the GLE.
A 9-speed automatic gearbox will be standard across all Mercedes E-Class LWB variants.
The new E-Class LWB is expected to be launched in India around the 2024 festive season. It will likely command a premium of around Rs 5 lakh - Rs 6 lakh over the current model, meaning prices will range between Rs 82 lakh - Rs 95 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect further details to emerge as the launch date gets closer.
The Citroen C3 CNG is available in 4 variants - Live, Feel, Feel (O) and Shine. The base Citroen C3 CNG is priced at Rs 7.16 lakh (ex-showroom).
