As reported in July this year Mercedes Benz cars is launching the EQB, 7-seater SUV in India by December 2022. The new model will be the electric version of the GLB SUV that is expected to launch soon in the Indian markets. Reports suggest the EQB will be the third EV by Mercedes in India after the EQC and the recently launched EQS.
Since the EQB is based on GLB, it will retain the basic design of its ICE counterpart. However, a few elements like the blanked-off front grille, different design for the headlamps and a full-width LED light bar at both the front and rear help the EV stand out in the market. While there are specific changes on the outside, the interior of the EQB is identical to the GLB with two large central screens with MBUX system, dual-zone AC and other convenient features.
EQB has two variants across the globe that provide different power outputs; EQB 300 produces 228 bhp, while the EQB 350 produces a healthier 292 bhp. Both variants use 66.5kWh battery while offering the claimed range of 419 kilometres (WLTP). However, Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed which of these variants is likely to make its way to India.
According to Martin Schwenk, CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, the company is expected to launch its last electric model, the EQB before the end of 2022 in India. The estimated pricing of the model will be Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be significantly cheaper than the EQC is priced around Rs 99.5 lakh. However, EQB will be slightly more expensive than the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs. 55.90 lakh) but offer more seating on the inside.
Tata Motors will launch the new Sierra ICE and EV before the end of this year - Harrier EV launch expected in May-June 2025.
