A few days ago, it was reported that Jeep is planning to introduce the next-gen Compass. The model has been under development for more than a year. It was set for the India launch in 2026. Unfortunately, Stellantis has recently cancelled its plans to bring a new Compass to India since it was not found to be commercially viable.
The next-gen model will be based on the all-new STLA-M platform. This platform can support multiple body styles including SUVs, sedans, and crossovers. It is also compatible with ICE and electric powertrains and can incorporate ADAS and advanced connectivity features. The same platform was supposed to be used for making the Peugeot SUVs for export markets.
However, to develop the vehicle on this new platform, an investment of up to $400-500 million will be required. Stellantis believes that producing these SUVs in India will not make commercial sense since they have limited potential.
This is to note that the current-gen Compass will continue to be on sale in the Indian market. Moreover, the company has plans for the midlife-cycle update for existing cars such as the Grand Cherokee and the all-new electric Wagoneer.
As for the next-gen Compass, it will receive an updated design, making it look more distinctive than the regular version. A variety of features will also be offered for the vehicle.
