New Car Buying Platform
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the All-New E-Class to the world. The sixth-generation saloon will go on sale internationally later this year as one of the last ICE-powered models before Mercedes-Benz goes fully electric. It is bigger than before, features a clean-sheet design, and gets upgraded powertrain options. Let us now take a closer look at the vehicle.
The New E-Class’ design is similar to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and C-Class, sharing some common styling elements. However, it is also unmistakably an E-Class with unique design cues. The front end offers curvier headlights and DRLs, a longer ‘power domed’ bonnet, and larger grille with optional illuminated surrounds. Move to the side and you will notice that the car is longer than the current model, featuring a strong shoulder line, slightly flared wheel arches, and multi-spoke alloy wheels. Towards the rear, there are all-new LED taillights that incorporate a 3-pointed star in pattern.
The German automaker has given the interior of the new E-Class a comprehensive overhaul as part of the brand’s efforts to position it more as a luxurious vehicle. The dashboard is dominated by a 14.4-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The company is also offering its new MBUX Superscreen setup which adds an additional screen for the passenger as an option in the Next-Gen saloon. There is also a camera onboard for video conferencing when the car is stationary.
Next-Gen Mercedes E-Class comes with Level 4 autonomous tech, previously only available on the S-Class. However, it will be an option in markets only where the laws allow.
The 2024 E-Class will be offered with a range of upgraded powertrains. Initially, it will be sold with a 4 or a 6-cylinder petrol and diesel motor options. A 9-speed torque converter automatic will be the sole gearbox choice. All ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) power plants will be paired with 48V mild-hybrid tech, featuring an integrated starter motor that provides additional power and torque as well as improved fuel efficiency. There will also be refreshed strong-hybrid options in some markets that get a larger battery pack, offering an increased electric only range of up to 115 kms.
In international markets, the upcoming E-Class will be offered with multiple body styles. This includes a wagon which is popular in some European markets. Mercedes is also expected to unveil the Next-Gen E-Class All-Terrain next year. Before that, the automaker will reveal the long-wheelbase variant by the end of 2023.
Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch the Next-Gen E-Class in a long wheelbase model for the Indian market. However, the version is yet to be officially unveiled. The brand has stated, “India will have the LWB version of the new E-Class that will be introduced at a later stage, after the debut of the standard wheelbase. India is the only RHD market for the LWB E-Class, and the market debut is expected only around the second half of 2024.”
