At the launch event of Magnite facelift, Nissan India has confirmed to launch 3 new SUVs in the country. All these models will be launched under the brand's mid-term global business plan 'The Arc'. Nissan is aiming to grab 3% market share with the introduction of these models in the country by 2026-end. The company will have a portfolio of 5 SUVs including new Magnite and X-Trail.
The Japanese automaker will introduce 2 new mid-sized SUVs and an all-new mass-market electric SUV in our market by the end of 2026. Coming next year, the brand will present its new 5-seater mid-sized SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in the category.
Nissan will also introduce an all-new 3-row SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. Both 5-seater and 7-seater SUVs will be based on Renault-Nissan alliance's CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin the India-bound third-gen Renault Duster and Bigster 3-row SUV.
What's interesting is that Nissan is also looking at alternative fuel options including hybrids and CNG for India. Most of the brands have also started offering CNG, hybrid and flex-fuel vehicles, which will allow them to meet the third phase of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE-III) norms. Moreover, Nissan is also planning to bring its global models via Completely Built Units (CBU) route.
Nissan will first launch a compact SUV, which will share the features and engine options with the third-generation Duster. The SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a manual and CVT automatic gearbox options. It will also receive a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with CVT automatic gearbox. The SUV will also come with an AWD drivetrain. The 7-seater model will share the features and other panels with the Bigster based 7-seater SUV.
