Japanese automaker, Nissan has just released the official teaser of the long-awaited Renault Triber-based MPV. The low-cost Nissan MPV is scheduled to be launched in the country this year. Going by the teaser, it is visible that the new Nissan MPV will look significantly different from its Renault sibling.
Nissan would aim to offer practical and spacious 3-rows in the sub-4 meter MPV. The Triber is also known for its versatile and spacious cabin, despite being a sub-4 meter model. It will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance's Chennai based plant. Nissan will also export the new MPV to left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive markets.
Nissan has made significant changes to keep the design of the MPV different from the Renault Triber. Major changes are made to the plastic parts, but it looks significantly different and carries Nissan's design language. The front has a larger C-shaped grille with hexagonal vents that houses the Nissan logo in the centre. Its bumper has silver wraparound treatment, while the projector headlamp units will be similar to the Triber. However, it gets new LED DRLs at the top.
The rear design is yet to be revealed, but it is likely to get a newly designed bumper with silver treatment. It will have newly designed tail-lights with new internal detailing. It also gets functional roof rails and a newly designed alloy wheels.
The Japanese brand will make several changes inside the cabin to make it look different from the Renault Triber. It will have new upholstery and interior colour schemes. The new low-cost Nissan MPV will share several features including upholstery, touchscreen infotainment unit, steering wheel, central console area and others with the Magnite SUV. Similar to the Triber, the new Nissan MPV will come with a modular third row seat that can be removed or fixed whenever required.
The 3-row Nissan MPV is likely to be fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charging, a semi-digital instrument console, second-row seats with slide and recline functions, and a cooled central storage box.
The new Nissan MPV is most likely to get the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 72bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT unit. It could also get the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that is good for 100bhp and 160Nm of torque.
Renault opens its largest global design centre in Chennai, marking a key step in expanding its presence in both Indian and international markets.
