Renault is gearing up for a big launch in the Indian market with its famous Duster SUV. After a strong run from 2012 to 2022, the Duster is making a comeback with new features and design changes. Alongside the Duster, Renault will also introduce the 7-seater Bigster, targeting buyers who need more space. Both models, expected in 2025, are set to strengthen Renault’s presence in India’s competitive SUV market.

Expected to start at Rs 9.99 lakh, the Duster could bring back its rugged charm with a modern touch. Design updates include sleek LED headlights and a robust stance. Inside, the Duster will feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity and safety features like adaptive cruise control. Engine options are likely to include a 1.3-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Talking about transmission, the Duster will likely come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, with the option of a CVT.
The Bigster, longer at 4.57 metres, offers more space than the Duster. Its 667-litre boot makes it ideal for families and road trips. Premium features like an electric tailgate, panoramic sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels are expected. The Bigster will also offer a more powerful 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engine, better suited for towing and off-road use. For the transmission, the Bigster may feature a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) unit, allowing for quick gear shifts and improved efficiency, along with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The new Duster faces strong competition from popular SUVs like the Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. To stand out, Renault may rely on features like the AWD and competitive pricing. Meanwhile, the Bigster will compete with larger SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus.
The Duster was a game-changer for Renault, boosting the brand's reputation in India with its rugged build, affordability and off-road abilities. Renault hopes the new Duster will appeal to modern SUV buyers with updates and potential features like an AWD option. The Duster's practicality, affordability and off-road capabilities made it a hit, even sparking the creation of the Nissan Terrano under the Nissan-Renault alliance.
Alongside, the Bigster will offer a larger, more premium option, priced about Rs 4-5 lakh higher than the Duster. Renault’s strategy is similar to Hyundai’s approach with the Creta and Alcazar, giving buyers clear choices.
