Tata Motors is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the home market. This year, the company plans to introduce multiple new models and facelifts of existing cars, including Altroz and Punch. The Tata Sierra is undoubtedly one of the most awaited SUVs in India. Scheduled to be launched in the later half of this year, the Sierra will be the next model in Tata line-up to offer both ICE and EV powertrain options to customers.
In the recent past, we saw Tata introducing an EV version of its new product first. Tata Curve EV was introduced before the ICE-powered model; however, the company is reportedly planning to introduce the Sierra ICE before the electric version in the market. In fact, a closer to production model was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
The Tata Sierra electric will be based on the brand’s new Acti.ev flexible architecture that underpins the Curvv EV and the Punch EV. This platform is flexible enough to accommodate different powertrains and dual-motor AWD setup.
Tata Motors has not revealed specific details on the platform used to develop the Sierra ICE. If media reports are to be believed, the SUV could use the ATLAS platform that underpins the Curvv ICE. The company could also use the modified Nexon’s X1 platform to develop the Sierra.
The Sierra in its return will come as a 5-seater model. It will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV with a sturdy and rugged design and modern interior. The SUV will share the styling cues from the original Sierra, which is a 3-door lifestyle SUV.
The Sierra lifestyle SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power the Harrier. This engine is capable of producing 170bhp and 280Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The diesel version could get a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo unit that currently powers the Tata Harrier and Sierra. This engine produces 170bhp and 350Nm of torque, and paired to either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Tata could also use the 118bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel engine that powers the Curvv.
The Tata Sierra electric version is likely to come with dual-motor AWD setup, which will soon debut in the Harrier EV. It is expected to be offered with two battery choices - 60kWh and 75kWh. Expect a range of over 500km in a single charge.
The Tata Sierra will be offered with two seating configurations - a traditional 5-seater and a 4-seater lounge variant. The lounge variant will have two captain seats in the second-row with reclining and sliding functions. Moreover, the seats could come with ventilation function and electrical adjustable system.
Tata Motors had showcased the Sierra ICE at the 2025 Auto Expo. This model was equipped with triple screen setup comprising a large central infotainment, a digital driver’s display and a co-passenger display. However, the Sierra EV will come with a dual-screen setup.
The new Tata Sierra will be equipped with several high-end safety and security features including 6 airbags, ESC, TPMS, 360-degree surround view and others. The SUV will also come with ADAS LEVEL 2 suite with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist and others.
Sierra will be Tata’s answer to mid-sized SUVs including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in the category. It will come as a premium alternative to existing mid-sized SUVs. The Tata Sierra will be positioned between the Curvv and Harrier.
