Vietnamese EV manufacturer, VinFast will enter the Indian market with its two global SUVs - the VF6 and VF7 - during the festive season. Production of the new SUVs will begin from July 30 at the company’s Thoothukudi plant in Tamil Nadu. After these two launches, VinFast will introduce a locally developed micro-electric SUV based on the VF3 in India.
Estimated to be priced around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), the VinFast VF3 will come to India in 2026. Similar to the MG Windsor EV, the electric SUV is likely to come with a battery subscription plan. The new model will directly rival the MG Comet EV. It will also be presented as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Tata Tiago EV, Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3.
In the global markets, the VinFast VF3 is available with a single battery pack option coupled to a rear-axle-mounted (RWD) electric motor. It is packed with an 18.64kWh battery with a rear-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 41PS and offers a peak torque of 110Nm. The small EV is claimed to offer a range of up to 215km on a single charge.
The India-spec model could get a bigger battery pack with a higher range. The small EV supports fast charging, and the battery can achieve from 10-70 percent charging status in 36 minutes.
The VF3 is a 3-door compact electric SUV measuring 3,190mm in length, 1,679mm in width and 1,622mm in height. This small EV has a wheelbase of 2,075mm, and has a ground clearance of 191mm. This small EV has a boxy design with a relatively squared front fascia with a black closed-off grille, halogen headlamps and a chrome bar that houses the VinFast logo.
The electric micro SUV comes with an all-black front and rear bumper, and black body cladding all around the body. At the back, the small SUV has halogen tail-lights and a chrome bar with the VinFast logo. Similar to the MG Comet EV, the VF3 has large front doors with a huge glass area for an airy feel inside the cabin. The second-row can house 2 adults, but accessing second-row seats will prove to be difficult for old age people. It can be accessed by folding down the co-driver’s seat.
Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a simple dashboard that houses a 2 spoke steering wheel and a 10-inch touchscreen unit. The touch unit also works as the driver’s display, as there is no separate unit for the instrument console behind the steering. In terms of features, the VF3 gets dual front airbags, manual air-conditioning, and power windows. ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, reverse camera and others.
