BMW is gearing up to unveil its M340i Shadow Edition in India very soon. The new variant of the premium sedan is part of multiple upcoming launches from the brand. This includes the updated Z4, X3 M40i, the X5 SUVs and the all-new M2. If you are planning to buy a New 3-series, we would recommend that you wait a bit longer until the Shadow Edition arrives. We take a closer look.
The German automaker launched the refreshed M340i last year, featuring minor changes to the exterior. Compared to the regular model, the Shadow Edition gets a blacked-out front grille and headlight surrounds while the brake calipers come finished in red. It also features tweaked front and rear bumpers, a fixed rear spoiler, and 19-inch black dual-spoke alloy wheels as standard.
BMW M340i Shadow Edition will offer a 360-degree camera and seatbelts with BMW M Pattern which is not available on the standard M340i. Elsewhere, the interior remains fairly similar. It gets a dual-screen setup on the dashboard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The screens are running on the latest 8th-gen iDrive software and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other highlight features include a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats among others.
Powering the M340i Shadow Edition is a 3-litre, 6-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine that delivers a maximum power output of 374 bhp with 500 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Transmission duty is handled by an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Compared to the regular M340i, the Shadow Edition also gets a few mechanical upgrades like an M Sport Differential, M Sport Brakes, lowered M-specific suspension, and an M Sport exhaust.
The New Shadow Edition will sit above the standard M340i in the brand’s model lineup. Reports suggest that it will be priced around Rs 72 lakh (ex-showroom), about Rs 3 lakh more than the M340i xDrive.
In India, the M340i Shadow Edition will directly rival the Audi S5 Sportback.
