Suzuki will launch the Jimny 5-door model, assembled in India, to Japan by the end of the month with a name "Jimny Nomade". The company will complement its locally produced Jimny 3-door with this new model. However, despite the 5-door being a derivative of the 3-door Jimny Sierra, the company will keep separate sales lines to avoid duplication for the end consumer.
The made-in-India Suzuki Jimny Nomade is the 5-door version of the bestselling Jimny, which will be manufactured only in India. It's the second made-in-India Suzuki vehicle to land in Japan in a year. This comes after the Fronx compact crossover, the first the Indian facility has sold in that country. The first shipment of the Jimny Nomade already reached Japan and should hit dealerships shortly.
The Japanese manufacturer currently produces the 3-door version of Jimny in its Kosai plant in Japan. The two available models in the market are Jimny Standard with a 660cc motor and Jimny Sierra, which comes with a 1.5-litre motor. The 5-door Jimny is more related to Jimny Sierra, but with more space and practicality compared to the 3-door model. The 5-door must be made unique, and this is why Suzuki will only call it "Nomade," inspired by the word "nomad," or free wandering.
The Jimny Nomade will share many features with the Indian version of the 5-door Jimny. The vehicle will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, which produces 103.36 bhp and 134.2 Nm of torque. It will be available with two transmission options: a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Additionally, the Jimny Nomade will come with Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system, ensuring off-road capability across all variants.
Inside, the Jimny Nomade will be able to boast as many comfort and technological features as: a 9-inch touchscreen multimedia system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ARKAMYS sound system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while other aspects were also added using a lot of features of security: six airbags, electronic stability control, Hill Descent Control, and Rear View Camera.
It's expected that although the Jimny Nomade will look like a part of the Indian line of the 5-door Jimny, minor differences would come through. Such will appear in the way of badging alongside minor changes to the colour scheme and features' list. Yet, everything else about its looks and specifications should be the same.
Bookings of the Jimny Nomade have already started in Japan. All the customers who have reserved orders for the 3-door Jimny Sierra and are still waiting for the delivery of their order have been offered to upgrade to the 5-door Nomade. Suzuki is giving all the upgrading customers priority in getting their delivery first.
This would make Suzuki even more potent in the Japanese market. This is a result of the earlier made-in-India model Maruti Fronx and is in the larger play of selling more India-produced vehicles to outside markets. The second India-made product that Suzuki would offer in Japan would be electric SUV e Vitara, expected to launch by late 2025.
