Mahindra & Mahindra is riding high on the success of the Thar Roxx, which received 1.76 lakh orders within just 60 minutes of opening its booking window. SUVs like the Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, XUV700, Thar, and Bolero continue to make a major contribution to the company’s total sales each month. Now, the indigenous automaker aims to strengthen its EV market with at least five new born-electric SUVs, set to start arriving from December 2024.
The carmaker has already confirmed that its first born-electric EV will be the Mahindra XUV.e8, essentially the electric iteration of the XUV700 SUV. According to recent reports, the Mahindra BE.05 will have its world premiere even before the XUV.e8. This electric SUV could be officially unveiled in its production-ready form in late November 2024. Both EVs will be built on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform, which supports multiple lengths, widths, and wheelbases.
Mahindra has revealed that its INGLO-based electric SUVs will come with two battery pack options – 60kWh and 80kWh. Both batteries can charge up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes with a fast charger of up to 175kW. These EVs will feature V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality and support RWD and AWD setups. The range of Mahindra’s upcoming born-electric SUVs will be up to 500km on a single charge.
The home-grown SUV manufacturer is also actively testing the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV – a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV. This electric subcompact SUV will share most of its interior elements with the XUV400 EV. It will feature many copper accents inside the cabin, along with dual-tone Black and White upholstery. Most of the features will carry over from its ICE version, including a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a wireless phone charger.
A few cosmetic changes will be made to the EV. The upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV will feature a closed-off grille, revised front and rear bumpers, a charging port on the front right-side fender, tweaked fenders, redesigned headlamps, and newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels.
