We reported earlier that the unofficial bookings of the Mahindra Thar Roxx have already been started at dealer level. Our sources reveal that Mahindra dealers are accepting pre-orders for the Thar Roxx at a token amount of Rs 21,000. However, official bookings are yet to be commenced.
Dealers are expecting that the Mahindra Thar Roxx will have a waiting period of around 4-5 months. And, deliveries will be done on the first come first serve basis. Mahindra has already increased the production capacity at its Chakan plant for the Thar Roxx. It will be manufactured on the Thar 3-door production line.
Mahindra aims to produce around 70,000 units of the Thar Roxx annually, which translates into 5,000 to 6,000 units per month. It will be positioned between the Thar 3-door and the Scorpio N, in terms of pricing. Moreover, the 5-door Thar could impact the sales of these two models.
The new 5-door Thar will come with several segment-first features. In fact, it will have more features and tech compared to the Scorpio-N. The Thar Roxx gets Level 2 ADAS tech, which we have seen on the brand's flagship XUV700 SUV. Other highlights include dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console with map/camera feed, a 360-degree surround view camera and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The Thar Roxx will be based on the same ladder-frame chassis that underpins the Scorpio N. It will be around 4.3 meters in length, making it about 300mm longer than the Thar 3-door. The SUV is expected to share the engine options with the Scorpio N, which includes a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. It will also receive a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine with RWD layout. The bigger engines will have 4x4 drivetrain as standard. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
