The long-awaited Maruti Suzuki eVitara will be launched in the Indian market by September 2025. Adding to it, the brand will launch an all-new SUV before the end of this year. It is most likely to be the 7-seater derivative of the Grand Vitara that has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The Suzuki e Vitara electric SUV will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta Electric.
Maruti Suzuki is aiming to produce around 70,000 units of the electric SUV; however, majority of this will be exported to markets like Europe and Japan. The company has also confirmed that its EVs will be sold through NEXA retail chains. MSIL has no plans to open separate dealerships for its electric vehicles.
The new electric Vitara is based on Suzuki's new skateboard platform, called HEARTECT-e. It will be available with two battery packs - 49kWh and 61kWh - featuring LFP 'Blade' cells sourced from BYD. Both will be offered with a front-axle-mounted electric motor, delivering a maximum torque of 192.5Nm. The power output of the 49kWh and 61kWh batteries stands at 143bhp and 173bhp, respectively.
In the global markets, the e Vitara also comes with a dual-motor, AWD setup that offers 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the eVitara electric SUV will have a certified range of over 500km in a full charge.
In terms of proportions, the new Suzuki e Vitara is 4275mm long, 1800mm wide and 1635mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2700mm. The electric SUV has a ground clearance of 180mm, which is good enough to tackle Indian road conditions.
The e Vitara will be offered in 9 colour options including 4 dual-tone. The monotone colour choices include Splendid Silver, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, Bluish Black and Opulent Red. Its dual-tone colour choices include Arctic White, Land Breeze Green, Splendid Silver and Opulent Red, and all are offered with Bluish Black Roof.
The new e Vitara will be the first Maruti Suzuki car to be fitted with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite. It will have adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and others.
Other key features including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a fixed glass roof, wireless charging, sliding and reclining rear seats, 10-way adjustable driver's seat, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, 7 airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera and others.
The e Vitara is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and the MG ZS EV.
Tata will launch the Harrier EV on June 3, 2025, while the Sierra ICE and Sierra EV will be launched before the end of this fiscal year - Punch facelift launch by mid-2025.
