Maruti Suzuki registered its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2024, accounting for a YoY growth of 4 percent, with total sales of 2,06,434 units compared to 1,99,217 units in the corresponding month last year. In fact, the carmaker reported sales growth in the small, entry-level car segment after a prolonged decline, thanks to strong rural demand. Aiming to maintain its leadership, the Indo-Japanese automaker has planned three major product launches for 2025.
The Maruti e Vitara, the production-ready version of the eVX concept, recently made its global debut at the EICMA in Milan. It will be the first electric offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker in India, competing against the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The electric SUV will make its India debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January, with its market launch set to follow in the next couple of months.
The e Vitara stays true to its concept, featuring charging ports on the front flanks, tri-slash LED DRLs at the front and rear, and pronounced creases over the rear wheel arches. Compared to the Creta, the new Maruti electric SUV will have a longer wheelbase measuring 2,700mm, indicating ample cabin space. It has a ground clearance of 180mm. The overall length, width, and height stand at 4,275mm, 1,800mm, and 1,635mm, respectively.
The interior of the e Vitara looks completely different from Maruti Suzuki’s existing cars. It features a twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a floating dual-screen infotainment and instrument cluster, a floating center console in a gloss black finish, and part-fabric, part-leatherette upholstery.
In terms of features, the new Maruti electric SUV offers wireless phone charging, single-zone automatic climate control, ADAS technology, multiple airbags, hill descent control, and many more goodies. The Maruti e Vitara will be offered with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh – delivering 144bhp and 174bhp with a single motor, respectively. The torque output of both setups is 189Nm. The larger battery pack version will offer a range of over 500km. The e Vitara will also be available with the AllGrip-e system (AWD) and a dual-motor option, reserved for the 61kWh battery-powered variants.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new three-row SUV (codenamed Y17) based on the Grand Vitara. When launched, it will compete against cars like the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and Tata Safari. The carmaker’s new Kharkhoda manufacturing facility will serve as the production hub for the new Maruti 7-seater SUV. Most of its design elements and features will be similar to the Grand Vitara.
It will be based on Suzuki’s Global C platform and come with the 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson strong hybrid powertrain options. On the Grand Vitara, the mild hybrid setup delivers a claimed power output of 103bhp and fuel efficiency of 21.1kmpl with a manual and 19.38kmpl with an automatic transmission. The strong hybrid version offers 115bhp and a mileage of 27.97kmpl. In the company’s product lineup, the new 7-seater SUV will sit above the Grand Vitara and is estimated to be priced between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is one of the volume-generating offerings for the Indo-Japanese automaker. This compact crossover is set to receive its first major update in 2025. The 2025 Maruti Fronx facelift will mark the debut of the brand’s own strong hybrid powertrain (codenamed HEV), which will gradually be introduced in Maruti Suzuki’s other mass-market cars.
Compared to Toyota’s strong hybrid technology, Maruti Suzuki’s HEV will be significantly more cost-effective. This hybrid system will derive mechanical power from the electric motor, powered by a petrol generator or a battery, as determined by the vehicle’s computer. It can utilize the battery pack to power the motor, reducing engine usage and achieving higher efficiency.
Maruti Suzuki’s strong hybrid technology will debut with the new 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine. The entire powertrain setup of the new 2025 Maruti Fronx facelift will consist of a 1.2L petrol engine, a battery pack ranging between 1.5kWh and 2kWh, and an electric motor. Minimal changes are expected to the interior and exterior.
