MG Motor India has launched its crossover utility vehicle (CUV), Windsor EV at Rs 9.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in three variants - Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. Based on the Wuling Cloud (sold overseas by parent group SAIC), the EV is a part of the joint venture’s plan of launching a new vehicle every three to six months starting in September. After the Comet and ZS EV, Windsor marks MG’s third foray into the domestic market with heavy localisation.
Please note: Customers will have to pay an additional battery rental of Rs 3.5 per kilometer over the existing price tag. For reference, if you drive the EV for 50,000km a year, you will have to pay less than 2 lakh additional as battery rental.
In essence, it maintains the stance and shape of an MPV. Windsor’s 4.3-metre length is further accentuated due to its short bonnet, leaving more room in the cabin. Design-wise, you get an illuminated front logo, LED headlamps, flush-door handles, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and LED-connected tail lights.
Windsor EV’s center console is minimalistic and devoid of any physical buttons. The rotatable 15.6-inch touchscreen (for reference, the biggest Apple iPad Pro measures 13 inches) goes beyond infotainment and gives you complete control over the vehicle. Besides wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it provides controls for HVAC, headlights, outer and rearview mirrors, surveillance, sunroof, etc.
With Windsor positioned as a CUV, MG has tried to blend the comfort of a sedan with the spaciousness of an SUV. To that end, the 5-seater gets sofa-themed seats wearing bubble-style synthetic leather. Both the front and rear seats are reclinable, with the latter capable of a 135-degree lean. It gets a 602-litre boot space.
MG Windsor EV is offered with a single 38kWh LFP lithium-ion battery pack. Paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor, it can generate the maximum power of 134bhp and 200Nm of peak torque and a range of 331 km on a single charge.
