The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has just received a generational update with comprehensive changes inside and out, along with a new, more fuel-efficient engine. Let’s take a closer look at all that has changed on the new Dzire compared to its predecessor.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire comes in 9 variants, spread across four trims - LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+. Prices of the petrol manual variants range from Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 9.69 lakh, while the petrol AMT versions cost between Rs 8.89 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh. The CNG fuel option is available only with the higher ZXi and ZXi+ trims, priced at Rs 8.74 lakh and Rs 9.84 lakh, respectively. All mentioned prices are introductory, ex-showroom India. The old Dzire was offered within a price range of Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.34 lakh. Considering all the changes and upgrades, the compact sedan has received a marginal price hike.
Compared to its predecessor, which had a more upright stance, the new Dzire carries an angular design with a completely revised front fascia. The good thing is that it shares no resemblance with the Swift hatchback, though it retains some original essence. Upfront, it features Audi-like ‘Crystal Vision’ headlamps with blacked-out surrounds, a larger hexagonal grille with six horizontal slats, and black and chrome finishes. The flat hood, with subtle creases at each corner, adds more to its all-new look.
The top-end ZXi+ trim comes with newly-designed, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and LED fog lamps. The rear section has also been revised, featuring squarish taillamps with “3D Trinity LED elements” and a revised bumper. The overall height of the new Dzire has increased by 10mm, while the length (3995mm) and width (1735mm) remain unchanged.
While the exterior is entirely different from the Swift, the interior shares a strong resemblance with its hatchback sibling. The sedan’s new model has a dark brown dashboard with faux wood and silver trims and beige seat upholstery. It features a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro Plus touchscreen infotainment unit supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and connected car features.
One of the major additions to the Dzire is the factory-fitted, single-pane sunroof – a first-in-the-segment. With the new Dzire, you also get a 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, cruise control, an Arkamys sound system, wireless phone charging, Type-C charging ports, and a rear center armrest.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire is undoubtedly a step ahead of its predecessor in terms of safety. The standard safety kit of the compact sedan now includes six airbags, hill hold assist, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, electronic stability program, rear defogger, seatbelt reminders, and three-point seatbelts for all seats. The tire pressure monitoring system and reverse parking camera are available in higher trims.
While the old Dzire received a two-star safety rating for adult and child occupant protection, the new-generation model scored five stars in the latest Global NCAP crash test. The bodyshell integrity and footwell area of the new Dzire were rated stable and capable of withstanding further loads.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire uses the new Z-Series 1.2L, three-cylinder petrol engine, replacing the old 1.2L, 4-cylinder motor. While the new gasoline unit (borrowed from the Swift) delivers a claimed power output of 82bhp and 112Nm of torque, the older engine produced 90bhp and 113Nm, making the new Z-Series petrol engine slightly less powerful than its predecessor. Similar to the old Dzire, the new one comes with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
Regarding mileage, the 2024 Maruti Dzire is slightly more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. Maruti Suzuki claims that the new Dzire manual and AMT versions offer a fuel efficiency of 24.79kmpl and 25.71kmpl, respectively. The CNG version promises a fuel economy of 33.73km/kg.
