The long-awaited 7-seater Renault Duster is set to make its global debut in Brazil tomorrow. Called the Renault Boreal, the new SUV has already been caught testing on the Indian roads. While the global-spec model is likely to be a 5-seater SUV based on the Dacia Bigster, Renault India has confirmed that the new SUV will be a 7-seater model.
The new 7-seater Renault Boreal will arrive in our market sometime in 2026. Renault will first launch the third-gen Duster in the first quarter of 2026, while the Boreal could arrive during festival season (June - October). The new 7-seater SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700, Nissan will also launch its own version of the Duster and the Boreal in India.
The new Renault Boreal is most likely to be powered by the same 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the new Duster. This engine churns out a maximum power and torque output of 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. The Brazilian-spec model will have a flex-fuel engine in higher-state of tunes. Transmission choices likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT.
The SUV is also likely to get a strong hybrid engine, which could be the same unit offered on the Dacia Duster. The hybrid engine consists of a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, a battery pack and an electric motor, offering a combined power output of 140hp.
The Boreal will be based on the CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the new Duster. Both SUVs will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai based production facility. The manufacturing unit will also act as an export hub for right-hand-drive markets.
The Boreal is likely to measure similar to the Dacia Bigster, which is 4.57 meters long, 1.80 meters wide and 1.70 meters tall with a wheelbase of around 2.74 meters. However, the India-spec model could measure around 4.7 meters in length to offer increased wheelbase and boot space to add third-row seat.
