Tata Motors is preparing to launch its CNG-powered Nexon SUV by September 2024. It can arrive during the same time when the prices of the Curvv ICE will be announced on 2nd September. Interestingly, it will be India's first CNG car with a turbocharged petrol engine. Further, it will use the brand’s twin-cylinder setup, used in other Tata CNG Cars such as Tiago, Altroz, Tigor, and Punch.
The closer-to-production model of Nexon i-CNG was showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show with the 5-speed manual gearbox. However, it is believed that Tata might also introduce an AMT gearbox on the Nexon CNG range. Following this, the Nexon will become the third Tata car, after Tiago and Tigor, to offer a combination of CNG-AMT gearbox.
Another highlight is that it will be India's first CNG car with a turbocharged petrol engine. The Nexon i-CNG will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged engine as its petrol counterparts. This 3-cylinder unit can produce a maximum power of 118 bhp with 170 Nm of torque. In the CNG mode, the power output will slightly go down.
Visually, the Nexon CNG will look quite similar to the standard model. Even the interior and the equipment list will be similar. However, Tata could offer more features in the CNG-powered Nexon than the Brezza. Some of its features will include a fully digital instrument cluster, touch controls for AC function, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated & height adjustable front seats, and more.
