Volkswagen Group unveiled its three-row Tayron, the German brand’s replacement for the Tiguan Allspace. Showcased earlier at the Beijing Motor Show, where it was named the ‘Tiguan L Pro’, the SUV is more practical, packs more tech and offers up to four engines. When it arrives in India, likely in 2025, the Tayron will compete with SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner. It is expected to arrive via the CKD route.
The VW Tayron is a large SUV designed for comfort and practicality. It measures approximately 4.8 metres in length, offering plenty of space for passengers and luggage. The Tayron can be had with either five or seven seats, but the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is only available as a five-seater due to the space taken by the battery. The five-seater model provides up to 885 litres of luggage space, making it a great option for long trips.
The Tayron's exterior design maintains a bold and modern SUV look. It features LED headlights and a distinctive illuminated https://www.carlelo.com/volkswagen-cars Volkswagen logo at both the front and rear. At the back, a full-length LED crossbar further enhances its stylish design. Volkswagen has stretched the car’s length by 231mm to add a third row of seats and an extra 198 litres of boot space. However, the PHEV variant cannot be had in the seven-seat format as the 19.7kWh battery is placed under the boot floor.
Inside, the VW Tayron offers a 10.25-inch multi-information display (MID) and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 15-inch head-up display available as an option. It also comes with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The SUV’s spacious cabin is complemented by premium materials, including microfibre surfaces and depending on the trim, open-pore wood bits.
The Europe-spec Tayron gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a mild hybrid system producing 150bhp and two 2-litre turbo-petrol engines with outputs of 204bhp and 265bhp. Its 2-litre diesel variant can be had in two drive formats: front-wheel drive (150hp) or 4MOTION all-wheel drive (193hp). Each of these ICE motors is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard.
Lastly, the plug-in hybrid combines a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor, offering a system power of 204bhp or 272bhp to the front wheels. This hybrid model can run on electric power alone for over 100 km and its 19.7kWh battery can be charged with speeds of up to 50kW with a DC charger.
