In a bid to regain 50% market share, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a wide range of new vehicles including EVs and strong hybrids. MSIL will introduce 4 new electric vehicles in the country by the end of 2030. Maruti Suzuki is also developing a new 7-seater SUV based on Grand Vitara SUV that has already been caught testing on the Indian roads.
Moreover, the Indo-Japanese brand is working on an affordable in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain. The new strong hybrid engine will power the brand's entry-level cars including the Fronx, Baleno and Brezza. The Fronx will be the first model to feature the in-house developed strong hybrid engine. Another big update is that MSIL is working on an all-new entry-level MPV, which will be based on the Suzuki Spacia on sale in Japan. Codenamed YDB, the new 3-row Maruti Suzuki MPV will go on sale in the country by 2026.
The Suzuki Spacia is 3.4 meter long mini Van, but India-spec model will be stretched up to 4 meters. Moreover, the MPV will look different from the Japanese model. Instead of sliding doors, the India-spec model could get regular doors with sliding function in 2nd row seats to access the last row. Similar to the Spacia, the Maruti Suzuki YDB MPV is expected to carry boxy silhouette to offer spacious cabin.
The new Maruti Suzuki YDB MPV will directly rival the Renault Kiger. It is likely to receive significant changes inside the cabin, in terms of design, features and seating layout. The MPV is likely to share features with the new breed of Maruti cars including the Dzire and Swift. To be positioned below the Ertiga, the new Maruti MPV is rumoured to be sold through NEXA premium dealership network.
The company is developing a new Series hybrid powertrain, which is claimed to be cheaper than the parallel or Series-parallel hybrid engines. The new MPV's hybrid engine is likely to comprise the new Z12E, 1.2L 3-cylinder engine, a 1.5-2kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The 1.2L 3-cylinder engine will act as a generator to charge the small battery pack, while the electric motor will drive the front wheels. Information Source - AutoCarIndia
