Few days back, Volkswagen shares its unprecedented compact SUV, internally codenamed A0, for the Brazilian market. The new model will be the brand's smallest SUV and will rival the likes of the Fiat Pulse and the Renault Kardian. Ahead of the global debut in early next year, the new Volkswagen compact SUV has been caught undergoing testing near Sao Bernardo do Campo (SP) factory.
The spotted model was equipped with hubcaps, which suggest that it could be the entry-level variant. The report claims that the compact SUV was powered by a turbocharged gasoline engine with a manual gearbox. This new compact SUV will be based on Volkswagen Group's MQB AO platform, which also underpins the Polo, T-Cross, Vivus and Virtus.
Skoda will also introduce its new sub-4 meter SUV, called the Skoda Kylaq in India. The platform is modified to accommodate a sub-4 meter SUV with a shorter wheelbase compared to the Slavia/Kushaq's 2651mm long wheelbase.
The new Volkswagen compact SUV is expected to measure around 4 meters in length. It is likely to have a wheelbase of around 2,566mm, which is similar to the one offered in the Polo hatchback. The Volkswagen A0 compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo flex engine. This powertrain could produce up to 116hp of power when fueled with ethanol. The new model will share most of its interior and features including the instrument console and infotainment unit with the Nivus Coupe SUV.
The compact SUV styling is inspired from the European Tiguan. The front has full LED headlights, but it looks different from the one available in the Nivus. The daytime running lights are placed on the top, and there is no illuminated grille connecting the two sides. The bumper has a wide black bar that offers a sense of robustness and aggressive look.
The side profile has clean surfaces with strong lines similar to the European Tiguan. It comes with rounded wheel arches with creases and black plastic cladding. There are worn-out plastic appliques on the front fenders, which gives it an SUV characteristic. The small SUV will come with 17-inch wheels.
Skoda has officially announced to launch Kylaq compact SUV in India in early next year. On the other hand, Volkswagen is yet to confirm the arrival of a sub-4 meter SUV in our market. This compact SUV could be a great choice for the German automaker, as the demand for sub-4 meter cars are predicted to be increased significantly in coming years.
