The German carmaker has officially started accepting pre-bookings for the much-awaited hot hatch, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. This hot hatch will come as a fully imported model in limited numbers. The new VW Golf GTI will come in a single 2.0L turbo petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Volkswagen India is yet to announce the official launch date for the new Golf GTI, but it is most likely to be launched towards the end of May 2025. Deliveries for the new hot hatch will commence from June 2025 onwards.
The Golf GTI will be a fully imported model and will carry a high price tag. We expect the new VW Golf GTI to cost somewhere around Rs 45-50 lakh. It will rival the Mini Cooper S in the Indian market.
Powering the Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 261bhp and 370Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is claimed to achieve 0 to 100kmph in just 5.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250kmph.
Volkswagen engineers has made certain changes to its suspension setup to offer spirited performance. This hot hatch has stiffer suspensions than the standard Golf, while the brakes are upgraded for better stopping power.
The hot hatch comes with a simple yet long lasting design, which is normally associated with German cars. The front fascia has sleek gloss black piano grille with contrasting red detailing and a GTI badge. It has slim LED light bar that connects both the headlights, aggressive lower bumper with honeycomb detailing, and the fog lamps.
The hot hatch sits lower than the standard Golf, and rides on 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. There are red brake callipers, a GTI badge on the front doors, wrap-around LED tail-lamps, and the dual-exhaust set-up.
Inside the cabin, the VW Golf GTI has an all-black dashboard with contrasting red highlights. It comes with a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. It is packed with sports front seats with GTI embossing. Features list include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 3-zone climate control, 30-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, and a ChatGPT AI assistant.
For safety and security, the hot hatch gets 7 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, and front and rear parking sensors, and a rear parking camera. It also gets advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, auto high beam and others.
