The Delhi government has shared a new electric vehicle (EV) policy that hopes to make 95% of all new vehicles electric by 2027. The plan also includes creating over 20,000 jobs by building EV charging stations and offering support services across the city.
This move is part of a bigger effort to reduce air pollution and support cleaner, greener travel options for people.

Right now, Delhi has more than 50 locations where electric vehicles can be charged. These places include over 4,646 charging points and 250 battery swapping stations, making it easier for EV users to keep their vehicles powered up.
One of the biggest reasons people avoid buying EVs is range anxiety—the fear that the battery might run out before they reach their destination. The new policy will try to solve this problem by adding more charging points across the city, so people feel more confident using electric vehicles.
The policy, first started in 2020 and now extended until July 2025, offers several money-saving benefits to EV buyers:
These offers aim to make EVs cheaper and more appealing to people.
By 2027, the government wants 95% of new vehicle registrations to be electric. The goal is to reduce air pollution and help the environment. By 2030, the plan is to have charging stations everywhere, making it easier for people to own and use electric vehicles.
The earlier draft of the policy suggested that CNG and fuel-powered vehicles would be phased out. For example, CNG autos by August 2025, and petrol, diesel, and CNG two-wheelers wouldn’t be allowed to register after August 2026.
However, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh has said that there are no current plans to force CNG autos to go electric or to ban fuel-powered two-wheelers.
