Czech automaker Skoda is all set to enter the sub-4 meter SUV category in the country in 2025. Called Skoda Kylaq, the new compact SUV is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of next year, most probably in March 2025. It will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza and Nissan Magnite.
The Kylaq will be developed on Volkswagen Group's MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Kushaq and Slavia. The platform will be modified to accommodate a sub-4 meter SUV, as both models measure above 4 meters in length. However, the small SUV won't be offered with a bigger 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Skoda Kylaq will be offered with a single 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. This engine is capable of producing 114bhp and 178Nm of torque.
The new Kylaq is likely to share some of its styling from the Elroq SUV that recently debuted in Prague in the Czech Republic. The Elroq also debuts the brand new identity, featuring 'SKODA' lettering logo instead of arrow logo. It is expected that the upcoming Skoda Kylaq will debut the new brand identity in India as well. The SKODA Lettering instead of the signature logo will also be offered on existing models like Kushaq and Slavia, both will receive a mid-life update in 2025.
The Skoda Kylaq will go on sale in the global markets in early 2025. The production version of the compact SUV will make global debut on November 6, 2024. It will be the first model under the company's India 2.5 plan. It is expected that the small SUV will enter production in October. The company is aiming to produce around 50,000 to 70,000 units of the Kylaq annually. It will first go on sale in India, with exports expected to begin at a later stage.
