Kia is all set to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the launch of the Carens Clavis EV, expected in July 2025. While its premium EVs like the EV6 and EV9 were introduced as CBUs, the Clavis EV will be the brand’s first locally focused electric model.
What makes this launch even more interesting is that the Carens Clavis EV is expected to borrow its battery and powertrain from the Hyundai Creta Electric. With an estimated range of around 400 to 450 km, the Clavis EV is set to become India’s first mass-market 7-seater electric MPV.

To keep development costs in check, Kia is likely to use the same battery and powertrain setup as the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Creta EV comes with two battery options — 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh — offering a certified range of 390 km and 473 km, respectively. The electric motor in these variants produces either 135 PS or 171 PS, depending on the battery pack.
The Carens Clavis EV is expected to follow a similar configuration. However, due to its larger and heavier body, the range may slightly dip compared to the Creta EV. Despite this, Kia will focus on providing a smooth, family-friendly driving experience with added EV-specific features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging.
Spy shots of the test vehicles show that the Carens Clavis EV will retain most design elements from the ICE version, including LED lighting with a signature Star Map DRL design. A front charging port, EV badging, and aero-style alloy wheels will help differentiate it from the regular model. A full-width LED strip at the front is also expected to give it a more futuristic appeal.
Inside, the cabin will focus on tech and comfort, with dual 12.3-inch screens, a Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and ventilated seats. Other features likely include electric tumble seats for easy third-row access, a powered driver’s seat, ambient lighting, and an integrated air purifier. Safety will be robust, with over 20 advanced driver assistance features under Kia’s Level 2 ADAS system.
Kia plans to launch the Carens Clavis EV in July 2025. Expected to be priced between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom), the Clavis EV will target families looking for an electric upgrade without compromising on space, comfort, or driving range. This move aligns with Kia’s strategy to localize EV offerings and make them more accessible to Indian buyers.
