Renault is getting ready to launch three new cars in India over the next two years. These include the next-gen Duster SUV, a bigger 7-seater version called the Boreal, and a new affordable electric car.
Here's what to expect from Renault’s upcoming models.
Renault will reintroduce the Duster in its third generation in the first quarter of 2026. Production is scheduled to begin by September 2025 at the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai. This mid-size SUV will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and others in the segment.
Powertrain Options
The new Duster will launch initially with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 151 bhp and 250 Nm, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Renault may also offer a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT options.
Hybrid and CNG on the Way
Renault is reportedly working on a multi-fuel strategy for the Duster. A strong hybrid variant is expected to follow within 12 months of the petrol version’s launch. A CNG-powered version is also under consideration, with support from Indian suppliers like Minda Westport.
Global Hybrid Specs
Globally, the Duster hybrid uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine, a 49hp electric motor, and a 1.2kWh battery to generate a total of 140hp. This setup allows electric-only driving for up to 80 percent of urban trips. An automatic gearbox comes as standard.
Shared Platform
The Duster is built on the CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin the 7-seater Boreal and future Nissan SUVs in India.
Renault Boreal, a longer 7-seat version of the Duster, will make its global debut on July 10, 2025. The India launch is expected to follow in 2026. It aims to offer more space and versatility while maintaining the Duster’s rugged appeal.
Platform and Powertrain
The Boreal is based on the same CMF-B platform as the Duster and will likely feature a strong hybrid powertrain with around 155hp. This includes:
– 108hp from the petrol engine
– The remaining output from an electric motor powered by a 1.4kWh battery
Expected Features
The Boreal is expected to offer:
– A bold new grille and LED lighting
– Roof rails and body cladding for a rugged SUV look
– A large touchscreen infotainment system
– Digital instrument cluster
– Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
– Wireless charging
– Dual-zone climate control
– Premium features like panoramic sunroof and powered front seats
– Advanced safety features including ADAS, ESC, ABS with EBD, and a 360-degree camera
Renault is also working on a brand-new A-segment electric car aimed at the entry-level EV market in India. This model will likely be priced around Rs 10 lakh, offering a claimed range of approximately 300km.
Key Highlights
– Pricing expected around Rs 10 lakh
– 300km driving range
– Designed for city commutes and daily use
– Will help Renault tap into India’s budget EV market
Market Positioning
The new EV will slot below the Kiger and Magnite, but may be larger than the Kwid. It will take on rivals such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3, targeting value-focused urban EV buyers.
